Competitive Club 2011 - 2012
Purpose: The purpose of the Nazarene Recreation Volleyball Club is to provide an affordable competitive volleyball environment that helps players fully develop their God-given gifts in an atmosphere that is affirming, demanding and enjoyable.
Nature of the Program: Naz Volleyball is a Christian organization in nature and in practice. Practices, competitions, and behavior (both by athletes and parents) will reflect that purpose in everything that is done. The focus of the organization will NOT be on winning games and matches. The focus will be on developing God-given skills and teamwork to their fullest.
Should teams win or lose any game they will do so with outstanding sportsmanship that reflects positively on them, their families, this organization and God who gave them the ability to play. The evaluation for success will be based not on the score, but on the performance of the players in relationship to their skill level and effort demonstrated on that day.
All participants will be involved in a regular series of Bible study as part of the practice experience and be involved in community service.
Participants: Girls age 17 and under who are invited following a skills assessment.
Format: The club will feature both in house competitive leagues and travel teams. The club requires a commitment from October—May. All members of the club will become members of USA Volleyball and be eligible for tournament play, whether they choose to travel to such tournaments or not.
Fees: $100 Deposit with application + USA Volleyball fees (estimated at $45)
$460 (or $500 in 2 payments) upon acceptance
This cost will included all training, in house competition, gym rental, practice shirts, competitive uniforms, shorts, equipment, one volleyball, awards and trophies.

Tryouts: Prior to competing with the club all players must complete a tryout. Players must only attend one tryout.
Following the tryouts, invitations will be given to those ready to be part of a competitive program. A reply-by date will be established for responses to the invitations and practices will begin after that. Those not chosen for NazVolley, will be encouraged to find avenues for continued skill development.
Structure: Teams will practice twice a week on average, with Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays being utilized. Complete schedules will be set once rosters are complete. Setters will be required to attend an additional 30 minutes per week. An optional skills time will be offered for all players most weeks. Bible Study / Chapels will be held on Tuesdays and players must attend a minimum of 8 throughout the year.
Practices: Practices will be focused, intense and goal oriented. Players and teams will have clear-cut objectives and work to achieve them. Practices may run anywhere from an hour and fifteen minutes to two hours.
Other Items:
> Players will be expected to document strong academic progress in school in order to be able to practice and compete.
> All players, coaches, and teams will be expected to design, implement and execute a community service module.
